The high school AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program is a four-year regularly scheduled elective college preparatory class for students with academic potential. AVID supports students academically and helps prepare them for four-year college. Students receive special tutoring from Tutors (ideally former AVID students) from area colleges and universities who are trained to use specific teaching methodologies and materials. Lessons are also offered in note-taking, study skills, test taking, time management, SAT, college entrance/placement exam preparation, effective textbook reading, and library research skills. During their senior year, AVID students are assisted with their four-year college, financial aid and scholarship applications.
