Student Dress Code |
Pursuant to California law, Education Code, and Board Policy, the following standards of dress shall be in effect. |
- Gang attire as determined by School Police and School Administration is strictly prohibited.
- Only SVHS hats or caps may be worn. No other headwear may be brought or worn. Caps and hats may be worn outside of the classroom with bills facing forward. No hoods, caps, hats, beanies, bandanas, or other head coverings of any kind may be worn. Failure to comply will result in confiscation of the item or additional discipline as determined by the administration.
- Clothing or jewelry of the following types is not permitted:
- Which are profane, sexually suggestive or advocate racial, ethnic, religious prejudice, or condone tagging, use of tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs or illegal activities.
- Which provoke others to acts of violence or which may be used as weapons, including but not limited to gloves, shoestrings, wristbands, belt buckles, chains, bracelets, rings, earrings or any other items that identify gangs and crews.
- Oversized clothing including oversized white t-shirts with creased sleeves and oversized pants is prohibited. Pants must not fall below the waist if the belt is removed. Clothing should be worn in the manner in which it was intended. Chains, including wallet chains, are not allowed. Shirts, which fall below the mid-thigh (knuckles), are considered oversized and will not be permitted.
- Attire that is sexually suggestive or extremely brief is not permitted. This includes but is not limited to low cut tops, spaghetti straps or straps that do not fully cover bra straps, strapless or off-the-shoulder tops, halter tops, see through tops or cover-ups (straps 2” minimum), bare midriffs (with or without a sweater or jacket), tank tops, muscle shirts, undershirts, fishnet tops, pajamas. The clothing should not be cut lower than three inches from the clavicle. Shorts that expose or do not cover the posterior or undergarments are not allowed.
- Shoes must be worn at all times. (No loafers, slippers, etc.)
- Shorts worn to the knee or longer with knee length socks is prohibited.
- Dark glasses/sun glasses are not permitted in the classroom and must be worn as intended.
- Backpacks must not contain any writing or identifying marks deemed inappropriate by administration.

The student dress code may be changed at the discretion of administration to reflect trends in style that may create an environment not conducive to the educational setting. Students in violation of the dress code will be asked to change. Students refusing to change or having 2 or
more dress code violations will be suspended for defiance. Those items which violate the dress code will be confiscated and held for 5 days. Some items may be retrieved only by parents. |
