Baldwin Park Unified School District is proud to celebrate senior athletes who are finishing strong and being recognized for their excellence on and off the field.
Senior Steven Olvera was named the Montview League Outstanding Male Student-Athlete during the Foothill Citrus Athletic Directors Association Dinner on May 5. The annual banquet brings together athletic directors from the Mt. SAC region to honor one standout male and female student-athlete from each league. Olvera, who boasts a 3.9 GPA, was recognized for his dedication to athletics and academics. Sierra Vista head boys swim coach Cristian Gonzalez attended in support.
Adding to the celebration, senior Matthew Rosas committed to continue his athletic journey by signing his letter of intent to play football at Willamette University. Rosas plans to balance both football and academics at the collegiate level, marking a major milestone in his high school career. Dons staff and peers were by his side during the signing and celebrated with him.
On May 12, the spotlight continued at Mountain Meadows Golf Course, where the Montview League Outstanding Seniors were honored. Each school in the league recognized five seniors who demonstrated excellence in athletics, extracurriculars, volunteer work, and academics.
Sierra Vista’s five honorees were:
Jason Avendaño, GPA 4.4
Destiny Quiñones, GPA 3.2
Steven Olvera, GPA 3.9
Jaslene Campa Sanchez, GPA 3.7
Jaelean Alvarez, GPA 3.9
These student-athletes represented a wide range of sports, including volleyball, track and field, swim, water polo, cheer, and wrestling. Beyond the playing field, they contributed to campus life through involvement in clubs such as NAMI, Dual Language, Child Development, Leo Club, Architecture, Green Thumb Club, Model United Nations, and Chess Club.
Sierra Vista Athletic Director Robyn Reclusado-Garcia and Principal Vince Pratt joined the celebration to cheer on the students’ accomplishments.
“Our student-athletes are leaders, scholars, and role models,” Reclusado-Garcia said. “Their passion and perseverance have left a lasting mark on Sierra Vista, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.”
As graduation approaches, BPUSD proudly celebrates these seniors for the way they’ve balanced competition, character, and community every step of the way.
