Textbook: Comprehensive Health by Goodheart-Willcox Publisher
Course Description: This Health Course is aligned to the Health Framework for California Public Schools so that all students have the opportunity to obtain accurate information, develop lifelong positive attitudes and behaviors, and make wise decisions related to their personal health. The Health curriculum will include personal health, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, nutrition, individual growth and development, family living and relationships, and communicable and non-communicable diseases. Major themes are the acceptance of personal responsibility for lifelong health, respect for and promotion of the health of others, an understanding of the process of growth and development, and informed use of health-related information, products, and services.
Materials Needed for this Class:
1. Spiral Notebook (120 pages or more)
2. High lighter
3. Pencils/Pens
Class Rules: 1. Be on time to class.
2. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum in class.
3. Raise hand to be recognized.
4. Be tolerant and respectful of others actions, thoughts, and words.
5. Students are dismissed by the classroom teacher after the bell.
 
Classroom Policies:
All assignments will require a proper heading and student work will be turned in on time.
Late work will NOT be accepted.
Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and district policy will be enforced, students will be given a zero if caught
cheating and parents will be contacted.
 
Grading Categories/Policies:
The grade will be broken down into four separate categories
Tests – 30%
Classwork / Homework – 50 %
Warm-Ups– 10% Participation- 10%
The warm ups are a daily activity that will be done every day at least once. These are important to stimulate the thought process, start discussion, and access the students’ background knowledge. Warm-ups allow the class to flow and student interaction.
The classwork and homework will be done daily and will consist of worksheets, answering questions, and projects. Tests will be given at the end of each section.
Grading Scale:
A= 90%-100%
B= 80%-89%
C= 70%-79%
D=60%-69%
F= 59% and below
