RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION 9-12

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT POLICY 

 

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DRESS OUT DAILY IN THEIR OWN P.E. UNIFORM. 

P.E. UNIFORMS 

 

  1. Solid Red gym shorts – appropriate lengthno pockets 
  1. White T- shirt – no logos, appropriate size (only a white undershirt is allowed) 
  1. Athletic socks – no longer than mid-calf, solid white, black, red or grey 
  1. Athletic shoes – laced and tied, no slip-ons 

 

Clean loaner uniforms are available for those who do not have their uniform.  Points may be deducted from the participation grade each time loaners are borrowed.  Keeping loaners without permission will be considered theft and will result in an office referral.  Students are not allowed to share uniforms.   No other shorts may be worn under the gym shorts.  Undergarments should not be visible.  Shorts must be worn at the waist. 

 

Sweatshirts and sweat pants are recommended during cold weather.  They should be one of the following colors:  black, red, white or gray.  They may not have any logos or writing on them other than approved SVHS apparel. Red shorts and white T-shirt must be worn under the sweatshirt and pants.  Sweats are not required: Therefore, they will not be accepted in place of the red shorts and white T-shirt.  The privilege to wear sweats may be revoked at teacher’s discretion. 

 

No part of the uniform can be cut or altered in any way.  P.E. uniforms must be clean and in good condition. Note: clothes not washed on a regular basis will result in deduction of points. 

 

ALL GYM CLOTHES ARE TO BE MARKED WITH ONLY THE STUDENTS NAME IN BLACK PERMANENT MARKER.   NO OTHER COLORMARKINGS OR DESIGNS!

ATTENDANCE 

 

First roll will be taken on the numbers when the tardy bell rings.  Be on your assigned P.E. roll call number when the tardy bell rings, or you will be marked absent, or tardy.  Remain on your number until you are dismissed.  If you come to class after roll call, you must report to your first roll teacher immediately.  After first roll, students will have 10 minutes to dress and report to their activity.  Third roll call will be taken at the end of class on the first roll numbers.  Any student not on their number will be considered truant. 

 

Students are required to stay in class until dismissed by their teacher. 

 

LOCKS AND LOCKERS 

 

You will be issued a lock and locker for use during class.  These are the only locks allowed.  Any other locks will be cut off.  Use only the locks issued to you by your instructor. 

 

Do not share your lock or locker with anyone!  Keep your combination a secret!  Do not move your lock to another locker!  Lock your locker at all times!  Use long lockers only during class! 

 

You must return the lock at the end of the year or you will be charged for it. 

Note: The use of locker room is a privilege and may be revoked at teacher’s discretion. 

 

Locker room rules:  No Horseplay, No Food or Drinks, No Gum, No Eating, No Glass Containers, No Running, No Excessive noise, No Loitering, No Spitting (inside or outside)  Food or drinks may be purchased only at the end of class.  Anything purchased during class will be confiscated.  Chewing gum presents a choking hazard and will not be allowed at any time and may result in a loss of 5 points.. 

 

For safety reasons, fashion watches, bracelets, anklets, rings, hoop, multiple or other dangling earrings, including piercings on cartilage of the ear, nose rings or other facial piercings are ABSOLUTELY NOT PERMITTED.   Light necklaces may be worn underneath the shirt and one pair of small stud earrings on the lobe only, at teacher’s discretion. Jewelry worn to activities may be confiscated and returned after school or to a parent. 

All jewelry (including watches and facial jewelry) should be placed in a pocket, shoe or purse and locked in your locker.  Expensive jewelry or large sums of money should be left at home.  

 

Shoulder length hair must be tied back with a rubber band.  The school will not supply these. 

 

EXCUSES FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION 

 

If you are unable to participate fully in your activity, a note from a parent or guardian, which includes the reason, a phone number, dates to be excused and signature must be presented to the instructor before class. Menstrual cycle is not a medical issue unless stated in a written note by a physician. 

 

A doctor’s note is required for any request over three days.  Make up work will be assigned to those who are excused from physical activity. 

 

You may not be able to participate, but you will always dress.  If you are well enough to be in school, you are well enough to dress for P.E. 

 

A medical excuse is a loss of 5 points.  These points may be made up with a hand written assignment.  It is the student’s responsibility to request make up work.  Late assignments will not be accepted. 

 

GRADING POLICY 

 

Your grade in Physical Education will be based upon the averaging of:  Participation in class, (point deduction for improper uniform, tardiness, cuts, truancies, non-dress, non-participation, absences, etc.), skills test, Physical Fitness Test and written test. 

 

75% Participation 

10% Skills Tests 

15Physical Fitness Test/Written Test 

 

All freshmen must complete the Freshman Core Requirements during their ninth grade year.  Selecting an activity is a privilege that may be revoked at the instructor’s discretion. 

 

All freshmen must pass the state physical fitness test or take Physical Education until they do pass. 

 

 

ABSENCES 

5 points will be deducted for each absence.  Excused absences can be made up within one week of the absence.  It is the student’s responsibility to request makeup assignments from their instructor.

100 – 90 POINTS = A
