General Class Expectations

Materials Needed for Class: (see Ms. Naylor privately if you need help getting any of these materials)

  • Textbook – your fastest and most accurate source of information
  • Pens – blue or black ink only, or pencils.
  • Notebook: 3 to 5 subject large spiral – you need a minimum of three separate sections
    • Notebooks are required.  Most of your graded paper assignments will be kept here.
      • Should be for this class only
      • Have a table of contents and numbered pages for each section
      • Should be kept up-to-date – do this at least once a week

Some emergency supplies are available in class, but I do not provide all supplies for everyone

 Behavior:

I expect all students to:

  • Be in class and on time – tardy and dress code policies ARE enforced
  • Be respectful to people and materials – no swearing, no playing around, no damaging equipment, pick up after yourself
  • Be responsible – for your behavior, your class materials and work, your grade
  • Be focused – do not use class time for personal activities – make-up, food, games, social life, electronics, etc.

Classroom Policies:

  • No food or drinks in class other than water – this is a safety thing!!!
  • No headphones or music allowed - ever.
  • Backpacks and purses should be closed and next to or under the desk – not on laps
  • You will get three uses of the hall pass during each grading period.  Unused passed become extra credit.
  • Personal grooming is personal and is not be done in class.  No applying make-up, fixing hair, etc.

Discipline:

  • 1st offense – warning – verbal or visual
  • 2nd offense – final warning, change in seat or group, behavior documented in Illuminate/Hero
  • 3rd offense – reflection essay assignment, behavior documented in Illuminate/Hero, contact parent to discuss problem behavior(s)
  • 4th offense - scheduling of teacher detention, behavior documented in Illuminate/Hero and parent contact made to schedule an in person conference
  • 5th offense– referral to office, additional parent contact and parent/student/ teacher/administrator conference, behavior documented in Illuminate/Hero

Any severe behavioral offense, including abuse of lab equipment, or unsafe actions during an experiment will result in immediate removal from the classroom with a referral.  In such cases, a phone call home will be made as soon as possible without disrupting instruction.
